The chart is titled “Compare your Needs” and contrasts options that are available from the comfort of your home with options outside your home. One of the at-home options is Telehealth such as Teladoc. The benefits of Telehealth are:

  • Visit by phone or video from anywhere (see footnote 2)
  • 24/7 access
  • Get prescriptions when medically needed (see footnote 3)
  • Treat non-emergencies like UTI, allergies, upset stomach, rashes
  • Can refer patient to ER
  • Shorter wait times (see footnote 5)
  • Behavioral health

See footnote 1 for more information about telehealth.

The next at-home option is a nurse advice line. Nurse advice lines offer the following:

  • 24/7 access
  • Can refer patient to ER
  • Shorter wait times

Finally, urgent care centers are an option for same-day care outside of the home. Urgent care centers have the following benefits:

  • Get prescriptions when medically needed (see footnote 3)
  • Treat non-emergencies like UTI, allergies, upset stomach, rashes
  • Receive labs and diagnostics (see footnote 4)
  • Can refer patient to ER
  • Shorter wait times (see footnote 5)
  • Can treat serious conditions (e.g. fractures, stitches, allergic reactions, asthma attacks).
  • Behavioral health

– Pediatrics
– Urgent care
– Women’s health and more

Therapy and counseling appointments are also available weekdays from 7 a.m. through 9 p.m. (Pacific time). Please call Teladoc toll free at 800-TELADOC (800-835-2362). Or, visit teladoc.com  to make your first appointment

For non-life-threatening concerns, urgent care centers come in handy. And for the most part they have a lower out-of-pocket cost  than an ER visit. Get same-day care for non-emergency illnesses or injuries. Some urgent care centers now provide x-rays and lab tests as well. Urgent care center benefits include:

– After-hours care
– Shorter wait times than an emergency room (ER) as a rule
– No appointment needed
